Research

We are enthusiastic about several research opportunities that I believe have the potential to revolutionise the way we approach mountaineering and create a more inclusive experience.

Research Ideas:

  • Multi-Sensory Documentary: The purpose of this documentary is to raise awareness and provide representation of the DeafBlind community. Through the incorporation of enhanced audio experiences, tactile elements, and visual storytelling techniques, we could create an immersive documentary for all. This documentary may offer a glimpse into what I, as a DeafBlind person, perceive visually and audibly. By allowing viewers to share in these perspectives, we can foster empathy and promote a more inclusive society.
Furthermore, this multi-sensory approach is not limited only to those interested in disability-related issues. In fact, it can appeal to a broader range of audiences, as not everyone has the opportunity to summit Everest. By providing a multi-sensory experience that closely mimics the real adventure, we can offer viewers a chance to virtually partake in this extraordinary Everest journey.

  • Haptic Accessibility Tool: Develop a lightweight and durable haptic accessibility tool, to provide me, as a DeafBlind climber, with enhanced independence and efficiency during my Everest ascent. By utilising haptic technology, this could potentially convey vital information such as navigation instructions and terrain conditions.

  • Social Haptic Signs: Communication is paramount, especially in high-risk environments like mountaineering. Therefore, a research could also focus on developing social haptic signs specifically for mountaineering and training settings. These signs would enable clear and concise communication between me as a DeafBlind climber and my team, ensuring a seamless and safe climbing experience for all.

We are extremely interested in involving researchers and organisations who share my passion for advancing accessibility in extreme sports and/or documentary immersion. If you are intrigued by these research opportunities or have any other ideas to contribute, I would love to hear from you. Please get in touch via email at info@DeafBlindEverestProject.com.

Together, let's transform these research prospects into reality and make my Everest journey into a multi-sensory experience for all.
